Name, Gender, and Birthplace:
My name is Stephanie Adams and I'm the first Playboy Centerfold to come out as a lesbian. Obviously I'm female and if you cannot tell from my attitude, I'm a native New Yorker.
Current or Recent Project:
![]() EMPRESS is about two powerful women who fall in love in ancient Rome and change the ways of the Roman government. The story goes beyond lesbians in love. It is very much symbolic of the present fight for gay rights and gay marriage as well as the continuous fight for religious freedom and racial equality. You can buy an autographed copy of the book via my web site www.GODDESSY.com or you can buy it now via Amazon.com |
What is your earliest memory of being a writer?
As soon as I learned how to write, I wrote a book about a mysterious island with people trapped on it. Gilligan?s Island was popular then, so I made a Sci-Fi version of it. My family got a laugh out of reading it. I was such a tiny little girl. I should have saved the book and sold it on my memorabilia site.
When were you first published?
Being a pretty face does not guarantee a publishing contract. It was just the opposite. I had to prove myself to the publishing company I chose before they could take me seriously. They took me seriously after I wrote 7 books in one year and even designed the book covers to them.
How do you identify and nurture ideas for new projects?
None of what I've done has ever been expected. I never expected to be a model, a centerfold, a spokesmodel, an artist, or even an author. It just happened. It's great that some people work on "projects" but I just take things I love to do to the next level and see what happens...
Who are your influences?
My aunts. They both raised me and even though they are not "artists" they both possessed a great deal of style, creativity and charm that influenced me tremendously and I'm eternally grateful to both of them. My aunt Joyce died and it broke my heart so much, I wrote about it in one of my best selling books.
Name 2 books and or CDs that you believe should be part of everyone's book collection.
| Mine of course:
He Only Takes The Best: Death And The Reason For Losing Someone You Love EMPRESS (A Controversial Sapphic Novel) GODDESSY: 2006 Psychic Reading Predictions For Every Astrological Birth Sign All available via Amazon.com |
Do you believe LGBT authors have an obligation to the LGBT community?
No one has an obligation to anyone but a parent who obviously has an obligation to his/her child. As an LGBT author, it is only fitting to give back to the community and help those that are proud and supportive of you. Doing so is voluntary, but not mandatory. I love giving back to a community that has embraced me and warmly welcomed me into it.
What advice would you give aspiring writers?
Don?t just dream about it. Make it a reality. The phrase 'Belief is only the beginning' is a motto I created for my web site and a motto I live by.
Can you share some thoughts on your upcoming project(s)?
No, but stay tuned to my site: www.goddessy.com. I've always enjoyed being controversial so whatever I do next will not be boring...
Color
Black. I love it so much, I actually wrote a book about it.
Food
Spaghetti Bolognese. I love anything Italian.
Gadget
I like sex, so you figure it out...
Drink
Chocolate Milk...Really...
Movie
I don't have time to watch movies, but the last one I enjoyed at home was "Tipping The Velvet".
Singer/performer
My aunt. She was the first black Miss West Point and the first black model for Wella. I like pioneers - and I am who I am because of her. My aunt raised me since the day I was born and died a few years ago on my birthday. The day she died, she became my mother in spirit. I truly love her - and love never dies.
